Zombro Promoted to VP of Pitching By Cubs
The Chicago Cubs recently promotedTyler Zombro to vice president of pitching. Zombro, a native of Staunton, Va., played in the Valley Baseball League for the Staunton Braves in 2014. He played college baseball at George Mason and pitched six seasons in the minor leagues, reaching the AAA level.
A year ago, Zombro worked as a special assistant to Jed Hoyer, the Cubs president of baseball operations.
According to a report in The Athletic by Sahadev Sharma, Zombro, as a special assistant to Hoyer, primarily focused on the Major League side. In his expanded role his influence will be felt throughout the Cubs organization as Zombro will be involved in amateur scouting, player development and the draft.
Sharma reported that the Cubs moved to promote Zombro after he was pursued by the Washington National to become the team’s Major League pitching coach.
