Jon Embury Named Finalist For Buster Posey Award
Former Front Royal Cardinals player one of five finalists for presitgious honor
Florida Gulf Coast sophomore Jon Embury has been named one of five finalists for the Buster Posey Award, the Wichita Sports Commission announced Monday morning.
Embury played in the VBL for the Front Royal Cardinals.
The award is presented annually to the top catcher in college baseball.
The FGCU player is one of five finalists for the award. Of the five finalists, Embury is the only one not from a Power 4 conference. He is joined on the exclusive list by Chase Fralick (Auburn), Daniel Jackson (Georgia), Vahn Lackey (Georgia Tech) and Carson Tinney (Texas).
The Eagles' catcher was recently named the ASUN Player of the Year and First Team All-ASUN after leading the league and ranking 21st nationally in hits per game (1.54) as of the end of conference tournament week. He also led the ASUN and ranks 63rd nationally in home runs per game (0.33) while ranking 56th nationally and second in the ASUN in total home runs (17).
Embury was the ASUN's leader in both runs batted in (60) and RBIs per game (1.15), ranking 65th and 58th in the national rankings, respectively.
