Staunton moves closer to top spot in South with a win over first-place Waynesboro...
Staunton 13, Waynesboro 5
In the chase for the South pennant, second-place Staunton moved closer to the top with a13-5 win over division-leading Waynesboro.
The Braves took the lead with a five-run, fourth inning, highlighted by a grand slam homer from Julian Braga (Florida Southwestern). Braga was 2-for-3 in the game while Max Lawson (Longwood) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Braves reliever Tyler Ruhl pitched three innings to get the win. He allowed just one hit while striking out two and walking one. Staunton’s bullpen blanked the Generals over the final six innings.
For the Generals, Nik Pereira (Tampa) was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Sam Guth (Coastal Alabama) was 2-for-4.
Winchester 12, Front Royal 6
E’mar Fleming II (High Point) was 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs to power Winchester’s 17-hit attack.
Bodie Pullen (Richmond), Carl Keenan (Shenandoah) and Troy Davis (East Stroudsburg) each had three base hits with Davis driving in two runs. Brody Connors (ODU) had two hits and two RBIs and Jaime Padilla (Shenandoah) drove in two runs.
For the Cardinals, Boone Hosey (North Florida) was 20for-5 with two RBIs and Danny Orr (Maryland) was 2-for-4, including a homer. Luke Monico (Marist) was 3-for-5 while Nicholas Dromboski (Stony Brook) and Zane Coggins (Gateway CC)(each added two hits. James Green (Presbyterian) drove in two runs.
Purcellville 12, Woodstock 9
Purcellville’s Vincenzo Cusat (Frederick CC) powered the Cannons, going 4-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs.
Thomas Marsala (Northwestern State) was 3-for-4 with a homer and two runs batted in. Andrew Bell (Duke) added a homer and three RBIs and Murchael Turner (Long Beach State) had two this.
For the River Bandits, Camden Lockhart (Coker) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Jeovanni Hernandez (Florida Gulf Coast) had two hits.
Strasburg 10, New Market 2
Marshall McGowan (Western Carilina) was 3-for-4 with a double, homer and three RBIs to power the Express.
Tommy Kirwan (Wofford) added three hits for the Express while Silas Shaffer (Eastern Kentucky) and Caden Haywood (Western Carolina) each added two base hits.
