Highlights from June 4 action. Waynesboro, New Market stay undefeated.
Waynesboro 14, Charlottesville 4
Waynesboro improved to 5-0 on the season with its win over Charlottesville. The Generals used 11 hits along with seven Tom Sox errors to pull away.
Aidan Autovino (Mount St. Mary’s) and Brice Abbott (Longwood) each had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Generals. Nick April-Gath (Florida Southwestern), Hunter Wallace (Lake Sumter) and Robbie Demetree (Florida Southwestern) also had two hits each.
Xavier McCoury (Liberty) drove in two runs for the Tom Sox.
Staunton 9, Culpeper 8
The Braves defeated Culpeper in 11 innings.
Jose Vasquez (Arkansas-Pine Bluff) had three hits for the Braves. Braedon Trajkovski (Walters State) was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer. Brody Melton (Milligan) added a two-run homer for the Braves and Josh Hall (Patrick Henry CC) added a key two-run triple.
Hall also picked up the win on the mound with 1.2 innings of shutout relief. Tyler Ruhl (VMI) made an impressive debut on the mound, pitching three innings and retiring nine batters in a two, six by strikeout.
Ty Powell (Texas State) was 3-for-6 for the Cavaliers and Tyrus Nobbs (Salem) added two hits and two RBIs. Johnny Sutryk (Charlotte) belted a two-run homer in extra innings for the Cavaliers.
New Market 10, Harrisonburg 6
New Market scored five runs in the eighth inning to overtake the Turks. A two-run single by Jonathon Lopez highlighted the inning.
Gage Dorris (Wharton JC) had two hits for the Rebels.
New Market starter David Treadwell (St. Johns River) pitched five innings and allowed one run on one hit.
Ben Garber (Rochester) was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Turks.
Purcellville 4, Front Royal 1
Purcellville rode strong pitching performances from Hazen Lancaster (UNC-Greensboro) and Ryan Rushing (Florida Gulf Coast) to stop the Cardinals.
Lancaster pitched three shutout innings, allowing just one hit. He struck out four and did not walk a batter. Rushing added three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five and walking one.
Seth Williams (West Virginia) led the Cannons offense, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
Henderick Torres (Jackson State) had two base hits for Front Royal.
Winchester 10, Covington 4
A four-run fifth gave Winchester the lead and the Royals pulled away for the victory. Todd Abraham’s two-run double sparked the fifth-inning outburst.
Abraham (Binghamton) was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and Brady Benevides (Barry) was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Brody Pullen (Richmond) and Christian Dillard (Middle Georgia State) each added two hits for the Royals.
Tyler Oaks (Western Carolina) struck out seven in 2.2 innings of scoreless relief for Winchester.
