Opening Night in the Valley Baseball League
The VBL season got underway Friday with six games on opening rught
Waynesboro 7, Charlottesville 2
Connor O’Sullivan (Rollins) was 4-for-5 with three RBIs to lead the Generals to their season-opening win.
Waynesboro relievers Matthew Demetree (Rollins) and Trent Shields (St. Thomas) combined to hold the Tom Sox hitless over the final five innings.
Front Royal 7, Purcellville 3
Jack Tomas (Gaston CC) and Dominic Archila (Wichita State) each had two base hits in Front Royal’s win over Purcellville. Archila had a double, triple and drove in two runs.
Cardinals’ starter Dylan Henshaw (Stony Brook) allowed just two hits in five scoreless innings. He struck out seven and walked one. Winning pitcher Reilly Bridges (Stony Brook) did not allow a hit in 2.1 innings.
Seth Williams (West Virginia) had two of Purcellville’s four hits.
New Market 6, Woodstock 5
The New Market Rebels slipped past Woodstock 6-5.
Erick Torres (Palm Beach State) had two hits for the Rebels while Logan Duffy (Louisiana Monroe) had a pair of hits for the River Bandits.
Harrisonburg 7, Culpeper 5
Andy Perez (Florida Southwestern) was 3-for-4 and Brody Dalton (Kent State) drove in two runs to lead the Turks.
Johnny Sutryk (Charlotte) and Ty Powell (Texas State) each had two hits for Culpeper.
Strasburg 7, Winchester 6
Eddie Castillo (New Orleans) hit two homers and drove in six runs to power the Express.
Braden Knapp (Camp CC) and Madden Williams (Samford) each added two hits for Strasburg.
Covington 8, Staunton 6
Chris Carroll (Eastern Florida State College) and Jadyn Perez (Volunteer State) each drove in two runs to spark the Lumberjacks past Staunton. George Pardo Jr. (Palm Beach State) had two hits for the Jacks.
Robert Boing allowed one hit in three innings to pick up the win on the mound.
Hudson Walbrun (West Alabama) had two hits and Julian Braga (Florida Soutwestern) hit a two-run homer. Josh Hall (Patrick Henry CC) drove in two runs for Staunton.
